We R Bots
A website that uses simple robots to demonstrate to humans just how much of our everyday lives are filled with robot-like action reaction pairs we inherited from our environment. But mostly ways to change from more robot-than-human to more human-than-robot day to day lives.

No Need to fear future robots who take over the world. Fear the robotic responses that you as a human being have... We are the most astounding computational and communcations devices we can even imagine. We would feel lucky if we could simulate and duplicate the behavior of a simple insect. Yet with all the computational machinery available to a human who can cross the street on it's own we spend our heartbeats hating and hurting rather than loving and caring. Thus we behave every day in every way using patterned behaviors accumulated through a conception of action and interaction pairs to control our behaviors.

Thus each of us chooses to operate from a set of inherited action / reaction pairs. Just like a simple $50 dollar Robot! (more info)

Yes, we are the defining intelligent beings (we are aware of) on this planet, yet we act like robots using old patterned behaviors gathered on the advice of others, parents, relatives, religions, you name it. Motorola Droid Demo

Motorola's Droid advertises itself as a "DROID" which can do work for you. But what about using the DROID as a control center - The Brains, so to speak, of the Robot? See the whole thing at http://www.cwhaticando.com/view/?t=Droid%20From%20Motorola%20::%20A%20Robot%20?&itemParent=246 We've built a lot of robot bases around here, just controlling the robot base like an i-robot Create, seems like an easy job for the serial port on this baby. We have a whole article on using the Droid as the control "brains" for a robot. Will the Droid deliver as a Real Robot? Read about it on CwhatIcanDo.com...

Motorola Droid Javascript Control.wmv

Using Motorola Droid to visit a javascript page on ilysa.com/car.php. While I apologize for showing it jumping around the screen - I didn't mess with it. So it jumps, but it shows the potential for robotic control via simple javascript commands embedded in a web page. So would a Droid make a good Central Robot Control potential? You'd have to develop an app, but it does seem possible. Can you use all the available powers of the Droid to directly drive a motor controlled base via the serial port? Answer is most likely YES. Can you create a segway-like two wheeled bot that depends on the built in compass, GPS, and camera and accelerometer to make the robot work? I dunno the answer yet, but it's gonna be my next robot project to find out!

Weekend Project: Mute The TV!!! Who's got the Clicker??

Mute it. Based on picAxe IR outputs. Works for Sony, others, you have to experiment... Wear the darn Mute Button... Yeh, just hit mute and the TV sound goes away. Low current runs for weeks on a rechargeable battery. And I love mine!!! Dontcha just hate it when the TV commercials are super-compressed with some high-pitched "pitch agent" yelling about this and that and if I don't have one of these, I'll have no life... They are so noisy I find myself yelling, "Mute! Mute! Who's got the clicker??? Mute it!" That was then. This is now. With my trusty muter at my side I can shut down the noise whenever I want. This is a great little do it yourself project from C What I Can Do. http://www.cwhaticando.com/view/?t=Home%20Project:%20MUTE%20TV%20Wearable%20TV%20Muter!&itemParent=226 VISIT NOW!

Weekend Project: Build This Simple Robot in 5 Minutes or Less!

A very simple robot using two gearmotors, a picAxe motor controller, An IR Detector, a battery pack with switch built in, along with a piece of wire and a plastic bottle cap. Wrap the whole enchilada in tape, mount the motor controller and IR detector and you have a cool little Bot Bot style Robot in less than 5 minutes. Reminder: Some of you are forgetting to make sure you have picAxe 08m chips. If you use an 08, there are no interrupts. You can write your own code and instead of using the interrupt, you simply loop through and check to see if the IR is triggered (It thinks it's a high), or better still set a flag that is checked a lot.) This won't work as nicely as does the 08m solution on CwhatIcanDo, but you can get your robot running! The whole enchilada, with schematics and software for the picAxe m8 chip: http://www.cwhaticando.com/view/?t=Build%20a%20Robot%20In%205%20Minutes&itemParent=180 A step by step breakout with software and parts list.
